In the main menu, click timer data. The timer window opens. Use the stop and go buttons to start and pause the timers. Don't worry if the time does not update like on a stop watch. As long you see the colored play indicator, you know it is logging. The smallest time increment which can be displayed is one minute, i.e. you will see 0:00 until at least one minute has elapsed and you stop the timer. To switch between the three timers, click the number
buttons. To view and operate all timers at once, click +. The overview lets you add more timers, if you register your copy.
That's it for the basics, but there's much more! To get the most out of SessionTimer Pro, please take the time to read this online help. Context sensitive help is available by clicking help in the top left corner of most screens.

SessionTimer Pro is a handy time logging tool for multiple projects.
Key features:
Freeware for up to three timers.
Unlimited timers with optional registration.
Crash-proof logging.
Midnight safe.
Calculates total or hourly payment based on elapsed time.
A note on 'crash-proof': SessionTimer Pro will not prevent your computer from crashing. However, it is reasonably immune to crashes. If a crash occurs while any timers are running, SessionTimer Pro keeps right on logging even w
hile your computer is turned off! This is good, unless you decide, after a crash, to go home for the weekend. In this case, you will find the next Monday that SessionTimer Pro has cheerfully added the hours since the crash. If this is not what you want, you should restart the computer to stop the timer(s).
In very rare circumstances, it is possible that SessionTimer Pro files become corrupt as a result of a system crash. Because it may not be possible to recover corrupt data, you should r
eceive free upgrades to any future version of SessionTimer Pro.
Detailed information on registering can be found in the included ReadMe or by visiting www.rootsolutions.de. If your computer is set up for internet access, simply click internet... in the main menu.

SessionTimer Pro lets you set a private password. Access to certain screens and functions is denied or limited when user password protection is active. You can select standard or complete protection from the p

In complete mode, SessionTimer Pro cannot be used at all without the password. When a password has been set, SessionTimer Pro opens to a login screen. You only need to enter the password once per session. Protection is enforced again when you close and reopen SessionTimer Pro. Please note that protection m

The amount depends on the rate base. Click rate... to view or edit the rate base. The following rate bases are available:
flat: a flat payment (shown at the far right) is assumed. by default, this number is also displayed in the payment field (since a flat rate is fixed). You can set a preference in the setup to display a theoretical hourly fee instead (which decreases with elapsed time).
exact: an hourly rate (shown at the far right) is assumed and a tota
l payment is calculated and displayed in the purple payment field (which increases with elapsed time). At least one minute must have elapsed to trigger calculation ('grace period').
60 min, 30 min, 15 min: you can round total payment based on a minimum time. For example, if your hourly rate is 100, and the rate base is set to 60 min, any elapsed time over 1 minute will round up to the next full hour. If set to 30 min, elapsed time is rounded up to the next half hour. At 15 min, elapsed ti
me is rounded up to the next quarter hour. These functions are useful, if, for example, you charge for 'each hour or portion thereof'.
The crossed-out $ button returns you to the standard timer display and updates the time field if necessary. Each timer has its own view preference; switching to a different timer with the 1/2/3 buttons or the overview automatically displays the last view (this preference is reset to the standard view when a user password is in effect).

You can set a few preferences to customize operation and reset them to the 'factory defaults' by clicking defaults. Access the setup screen by clicking setup in the timer overview. If a user password is in effect, the tools page may not be accessed.
on open, go to: set your startup preference to overview, if you are using many timers, or last timer if you only use up to three timers to maximize screen space.
default sort order: when navigating to the overview, all timers are automatical
ly sorted by the criterion you select here. For unregistered copies (three timers), it does not make much difference, but if you are running dozens of timers simultaneously, this can be helpful. Timers can be re-sorted and unsorted in the overview.
reset button operation: you can select from 3 modes: immediate simply resets the timer, regardless of its current mode. confirm asks you if you want to reset the timer. disable disables the reset button completely. Note that the reset button

Note: sorting timers may also affect which timers are displayed when you click the 1/2/3 buttons in the main timer window, because these always switch between the first three timers. To return to the original order, click unsort. You can specify a default sort order in the setup.
The timer controls can be operated just like in the details screen. To return to the small view, click a timer's

tools
The tools page gives you access to a few advanced functions that you may need in special circumstances. Access the page by clicking tools in the overview. If a user password is in effect, the tools page may not be accessed.
If, for some reason, you need to export the timer data, you can do so by clicking export timers.... You can select from a number of file formats. The file format depends on what you want to do with the exported data. Select 'Filemaker Pro', if you want to continue usi
ng the data in another Filemaker Pro file. Select 'Tab separated text' or 'Comma separated text' for maximum compatibility with other applications. Notice that re-importing exported timers may lead to unpredictable results. Importing should only be done from a SessionTimer Pro 'timer data' file as described under upgrade and import.
Timer data fields are written to disk as a new file in the following order:
- timer name
- timer display (the total time)
- pay input (the hourly or flat rat
is disabled whenver a user password is in effect, regardless of this setting.
default rate: additional timers automatically have this number entered. Whether the amount is assumed to be an hourly or flat rate, depends on the rate base. You can always edit this amount for each timer.
default rate base: select flat to turn the default rate into a flat rate, or select one of the other options to turn it into an hourly rate. When using hourly rates, you can calculate the total payment exactl
y (to the nearest minute), or specify a minimum, if , for example, you charge 'per hour or portion thereof'. Any setting other than exact then rounds up to the nearest selected time interval. You can always edit the rate base for each timer.
flat rates show: when set to actual, the flat rate stays fixed which makes for a correct calculated payment summary in the overview. On extended projects, it may be interesting to know a theoretical hourly rate. Setting this option to hourly lets you

If you have used previous versions of SessionTimer or SessionTimer Pro, you may wish to import your old timers into the new version. The same procedure applies if you are restoring data from a backup copy.
1. Open your OLD version of SessionTimer/Pro and go to the main menu. If you have checked the 'skip menu' option, you can display it by shift-clicking done or quit in the timer. Click export ready. After a moment, the copy closes. It is ok to leave timers running if necessary.
2. Open
the NEW version and go to the main menu. If you have checked the 'skip menu' option, you can display it by shift-clicking done or quit in the timer.
3. In the menu, click preferences and then import.
4. Follow the directions and locate your old timers.
** Note: in versions earlier than 3.0 (and the alternate Mac version), this file is called 'session timer'. In later versions, this file is called 'timer data'.
5. When the import dialog appears, select 'View by matching names' from th
- pay calc (the total payment)
merge timers: this function combines the time log of two timers into one. Suppose a larger project has been broken up into several components, each of which has their own timer. You may want to combine them into a single timer at some point. Select the first timer from the upper popup menu. Select the second timer from the next popup menu. Click proceed. The time log from the second timer will be added to that of the first. If you check the delete second
timer option, the second timer is automatically deleted after the merge. You can keep merging timers, but three timers must always remain in the file. If the delete second timer would leave less than three timers in the file, the second timer is reset instead of deleted. Merging stops any running timers.
set time: timers can keep on logging even while your computer is turned off. If you forget about running timers, or didn't create one at the beginning of a project, this function lets you
specify a time offset. The format is hh:mm:ss, although you can use shorthand; for example, to set a timer to one hour, it is enough to enter 1. To enter a half hour, enter 0:30. set time stops running timers.
